Know India Programme – (2017 – 18)

Smt. Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister inaugurated a portal for Know India Programme (KIP) on 17th June, 2017, a Ministry of External Affairs flagship programme for engagement with young overseas Indians. The portal enables Indian origin youth to apply online for KIP Programme. During the year 2017-18, the Ministry of External Affairs will organize 6 KIPs with participation of 40 overseas Indians in each programme. The Know India Programme (KIP) is a three-week familiarisation programme for Indian Diaspora youth conducted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs with a view to promote awarenessof India, her socio-cultural diversity, her all round development, her  emergence as an economic powerhouse, as a centre of higher education, and the ongoing developments in various fields including infrastructure, information technology, etc. The participants are provided local hospitality, including boarding & lodging in State guest houses or budget hotels, and internal travel. They are granted gratis Indian visa. 90% of the international airfare by the cheapest
economy class travel is reimbursed.

The Programmeis organized in partnershipwith the State Governments. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the organizational partner. The total number of participants in any of the Programme may not exceed 40. Participants may not leave the programme mid-way, they are expected to follow the entire programme as a group and stay at places designated I selected for this purpose.

Broad Contents of KIP

  1.  Visiting Indian university, colleges or academic institutions.
  2.  Industrial visits.
  3.  Avillage visit.
  4.  Exposure to Indian media and film industry.
  5.  Presentations on India and her Constitution, political process, etc.
  6.  Interaction with NGOs
  7.  Call on high dignitaries, which may include the President of India, Ministersof Overseas Indian Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports, Women and Child Development.
  8.  Visit to places of historical importance and monuments.
  9.  Cultural events.


The programme is open to the youth of Indian Origin (excluding NRls) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to start.

The candidates should either be studying at the under-graduate level or have completed under-graduation or equivalent. They should
be able to converse in English.

They should have studied English asa subject at the High School level or shouldhave English as a medium of instruction for the under-graduate course).
They should have distinguished themselves in a particular field and should haveabiding interest in India
They should not have participated in any previous Know India Programme or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth.
