Dissemination of Information for Indian Diaspora Youth in Iceland for participating in Know India Programme – 2016.

Every year the Government of India organizes a programme known as “Know India Programme” where Indian Diaspora youth living out of India is invited to participate in this programme so as to enhance their knowledge on India’s culture, heritage, etc. This year also, accordingly, the GoI is organizing the next edition of 35th Know India Programme (KIP) for Indian Diaspora youth living outside India, in order that they may familiarize themselves with India’s culture, heritage, etc. This is scheduled to be held from 5 May to 1 June 2016 for a duration of 25 days. In this connection, therefore, Indian Diaspora youth living in Iceland can participate in this programme, details of which are stated as under:

  • (i)   The Government’s invitation is open only for “Indian origin Diaspora” in the age group of 18 – 26 years, preferably the PIOs, who have never visited India thus far. NRIs are not eligible, hence they need not to apply. The duration of the programme is for 25 days, in which each participant will spend nearly 10 days in a select State.This time, the focus is on the Maharashtra State.The guidelines for KIP, application form and travel schedule for the KIP are enclosed.
  • (ii)   The selected participants have to purchase their tickets for the journey from Iceland to India and back, as per schedule prescribed by the Government of India. As per GoI’s policy, the Government would reimburse 90% of the total cost of the air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) to participants on successful completion of the programme by them on their return.

2.In view of above, the Embassy requests the Indian Diaspora youth living in Iceland, in the said age group, to apply to participate in KIP as per GoI regulations. The details of the procedure for applying to participate in this programme are attached and the last date of applications to be received in the Embassy at e-mail IDhoc@indianembassy.is – is April 10, 2016 so that the selected names could be communicated to the Government for final selection.
